Welcome to Our Lady and St. Michael's R.C. Primary School

Hello and welcome to Our Lady and Saint Michael’s Website. My name is Mr Viv Evans and I have been the Head teacher since September 2017. I have been teaching since 2000 having first had some non-educational experience working both in the oil and leisure industry. Our Lady and St Michael’s (OLSM) is my first substantive headship, but I have had experience of being an acting head teacher at the other catholic school in Monmouthshire; Saint Mary’s RC Primary in Chepstow. I worked at Saint Mary’s for five and a half years as deputy head teacher and eventually as the acting head.

My previous teaching experience was at Saint Helen’s RC Primary in Caerphilly where I worked for eleven years as a junior class teacher teaching a variety of year groups.

I am Forest School level 3 trained so I hope to be able to support the school in the delivery of outdoor learning.

Outside of school I enjoy walking in the stunning local countryside and when I am very keen I do try to make the effort to go for a short run. Sadly over recent years this has been rather infrequent something I need to alter over the next 12 months!

In the past I was a swimming coach for a local swimming club and also taught swimming at a local leisure centre and I am still a keen swimmer.

As a local boy I feel very lucky to be at OLSM and work in an environment where staff show such compassion and commitment to the pupils in their care and also have an opportunity to support enchanting, interesting pupils who work to the best of their abilities.

If you are a prospective parent please feel free to make an appointment for a visit around the school or keep a look out for our open days advertised on the website.

Diolch yn fawr iawn! - Thank you very much!

A huge 'thank you' to all our families who contributed to the Tesco 'Bag for Life' scheme and the Waitrose Green Token scheme which our school was recently featured in.  We are very pleased to let you know that we came first in the Tesco scheme and have been awarded £4,000 to spend on our 'Outdoor Learning Zone' and have also been awarded £284 by Waitrose to spend on curriculum resources for our children.  This wouldn't have been possible without your support for which we are very grateful.  We will continue to work together to provide the very best learning opportunities for our children.  THANK YOU!!
